Language Arts prompt: How the treatment of African Americans have changed over the last 30 years

At the present, treatment of African Americans is the same as the white Americans. You see them appearing in movies such as Rush Hour 1, 2 and 3. You see them as political leaders all around the world and even as presidents of their countries as in the case of Barack Obama. But did you know that before 1980, the treatement of these African Americans was extremely bad? In fact, there was even segregation between the whites and the blacks. The black people could not use certain facilities or could only use them on certain days at certain times such as the cinemas. The blacks were also forbidden from using the big library of the whites and were only allowed to use a small library for the blacks. The ironic thing was that this was not the way things should be. As stated in the Jim Crow Laws, the blacks and whites were to be separated but there should be equal treatment for both. That means the blacks should be given a library as large as the whites', have a cinema that is of the same standard of the whites' and so on. However, this resulted in unequal treatment for the blacks.
Of course, with the treatment that they were getting, there were definitely people who were angry and opposed that type of treatment. One of them was the famous Martin Luther King. He strongly protested against the treatment of the black people in America and did all he could to stop it.
In the 1950s. the African American Civil Rights Movement was started. This movement fought for equal rights for the African Americans. At that time, there were many incidents where blacks were treated unfairly and this was the cause of this Civil Rights Movement.
To cut a long story short, the African American Civil Rights War was a success and resulted in equal treatment for the black people. The blacks had finally gained equal treatment and soon, black people held many important positions such as a member of the Congress(Shirley Chisholm), or actors/actresses in movies such as Star Trek:The Original Series. Over the years, the situation improved more and more until today, where you see Barack Obama as the president of the United States
