Foreign talents: Good or bad

This subject, about whether spotting or attracting foreign talents to come to Singapore is good or bad has been a topic of discussion for some time already. Some people feel that attracting these foreign talents to come to Singapore and stay is good as they contribute to Singapore greatly. One example would be Feng Tianwei, who was born in China, came to Singapore under a Foreign Sports Talent Scheme. She has shot up the table tennis rankings to reach world no.2 and has done Singapore proud in many competitions, including beating China 3-1 with two other teammates en route to winning the Liebherr World Team Table Tennis Championships in Moscow. Feng showed how much her importance as she won the two matches she played against the world no.1 and 4.
However, some people feel that by attracting these foreign talents, many of who are academically gifted, Singaporean children do not have a chance to get into a good school of their choice as the foreign talents are given priority. However, this is not true as if the child works hard and scores really well, which school will not take him or her? Hence, this "bad" thing about attracting foreign talents to come and stay becomes good as the local students will become more competitive and study harder to fight for the remaining places in the good schools, as well as prove that they are as good as these foreign talents.
In my opinion, bringing foreign talents to Singapore is good as for one, this can make the local students more competitive and more hardworking as mentioned above. These foreign talents may decide to say as well. These two parties will contribute a lot to Singapore in the years to come.
Another reason for my stand will be that as Singapore is a small country and has a small population of about 4.5 million, how many "talents" will there be in such a small amount of people, as compared to countries such as China, which has a population of 1 billion. There is an abundance of talents there, many which remain undiscovered. Hence, by bringing all these foreign talents, many of which stay in Singapore and make it their home, we ensure that the future work force is a capable one.
